Confinement Cuisine

I ordered confinement meals from Peiling Confinement Services for a period of 30 days. Made the order in December last year after a food tasting session at their center. Total cost for the meals inclusive of delivery is about RM2200. Everyday the delivery man would send over the above items : 1.5l of Red date tea, Lunch & Dinner. All packed in microwaveable containers.

This is a sample of my lunch menu : mixed brown rice & multi-grain rice, 1 vegetable dish & 1 meat dish. Vege is usually some dark leafy green ones stir-fried with ginger. Meat is either fish, chicken or pork - cooked with wine and ginger too. Lots of wolfberries (keichi) and other nutritious stuff added. I usually like the food for lunch. Dinner is rice, meat and herbal soup. The herbal soup is also very fragrant with dong quai and other herbs. The servings are rather big and sometimes my mom will help me finish the food.

With lots of nice food around ... and lack of exercise due to 'confinement' at home, I may be putting on weight instead of losing it! Well, Marissa has got to help me shed those excess pounds away (by breastfeeding!)..... still have this flabby tummy with streaks of stretch marks all over! aaarrggghhhh! I need retail therapy - and the only retail therapy I can find for now is ebay! Speaking of ebay, business for June is the best ever!

Jaundice

20th June : Back to Pantai Medical Center, Bangsar for phototherapy. Bilirubin levels on the high side. This time admitted to the Paediatric ward. Very cute place with a circus theme.

21st June : Spent the entire day here with Marissa - breastfeeding her in between her phototherapy. Ate hospital food, slept a lot and read magazines.... on my wedding anniversary! Anyway, Larry and I had an early celebration as we anticipated that we would be too tied up to celebrate on the actual day. My parents managed Evan very well at home while Larry was at work.

22nd June : Discharged from hospital but review scheduled on 25th June.

Marissa's here!

June 15th : admission to Pantai Medical Center, Bangsar
Reason......waterbag burst and leaking amniotic fluid. We were at KLCC Signature Foodcourt for dinner when I felt a gush of water flowing out. Checked back home and noticed that I was also bleeding. More fluid gushed out too. Called my gynae promptly and she advised admission that night itself. Went straight to Labour room and spent the night there. Fetal monitoring throughout the night and no 'action' at all.... just little bit more leakage and bleeding. Dr Yap said she will check on me in the morning.

June 16th : Elective C-section by Dr Yap Moy Juan & Dr Patrick Chia
Reason...... no progress in labour.... no contractions and cervix not dilated...plus was tested positive for Group B strep earlier.......
Epidural given by Dr Satber Kaur (painless procedure) so I was able to witness entire surgery.
Marissa was delivered at 2:30pm by Dr Patrick Chia who used all his 'lunch power' to pull Marissa out!

Larry took the photos with the camera in the OT itself. He felt rather squeamish watching the surgery so he preferred not to look but just sat near me. He didn't even take a photo of the placenta nor cut the umbilical cord.

Peace & quiet! Discharged from hospital on June 18th. Bilirubin levels were slightly high on 2nd day of birth so Marissa actually had phototherapy done.

Bookworm

What has Evan been reading nowadays? His favourites stories are the fairy tales eg Gingerbread Man, Red Riding Hood, Beauty & the Beast etc etc etc.... He also loves reading the Disney stories eg Jungle Book, Tarzan, Toy Story, Sleeping Beauty etc etc etc.
"Wanna read, wanna read! This one - Mowgli" Evan would say,
"Open the book, turn the page!"
"The End"

His favourite book for now I must say is 'Little Black Sambo' - he can pretty much tell the story to us by himself. He's also into reading books on bugs and insects.... and his latest craze - Little Einsteins.
