Updates on Evan & Pregnancy

Attended my gynae appt today - already 27 weeks - and 65.5kg..... Baby growing well - according to my gynae, during the scan, it's still XX. Baby weighs about 1 kg - which is good. Placenta position is posterior - which is also good too. Praise God for all the good news! Next appt at 30 weeks and then it's fortnightly follow-ups....

Evan has completely stopped breastfeeding. Actually he stopped some time ago but he was still comfort sucking every now and then and sometimes just to get to sleep. For the past one week already, he has not sucked and has no problems with sleeping. No more asking for nen-nen. However, he's always playing with my belly button (which he likes to do when comfort sucking or breastfeeding). He's also more clingy and manja as he knows about the impending arrival of his baby sister. Larry and I have more or less finalise the name..... Marissa Au-Yong Tjia Ern. Well, only setback to this name is that most people will confuse it with Melissa..... otherwise it's a pretty sweet name.

Dental talk at Early Steps Learning Center

Larry was invited by Early Steps Learning Center to give a dental care talk on 20th March 2008, 10am-11.30am. This was the second time that Larry has given a talk there. The first time was 3 yrs ago. Early Steps is a center where they teach pre-school children with learning disabilities eg mentally retarded, autistic etc. The center was established about 8 years ago by a local church in Cheras. They got Larry's contact via Malaysian Care.

While the parents are busy listening to the talk, their little ones (including Evan) were occuppied with toys and activities in another room upstairs. This being a CG project, our church pastor, Robert Khaw and wife, Dorothy also attended. Our other CG members also graciously sponsored electric toothbrushes for the children. Evan was in good behaviour the entire morning, busy playing with the other children and I didnt have to be with him all the time and managed to listen to Larry's talk.

Lil Beansprouts Visit to the Dentist

Larry and I helped Lil Beansprouts Montessori (the nursery that Evan attends) to organize a 'Visit to the Dentist'. It was held on Wednesday 19th March from 10-11am at Damansara Heights Dental Center. A total of 20plus kids and 10plus adults were present at the clinic for the visit. The children were divided into groups of 5-6 and entered the surgery room in batches. Evan was in the 3rd batch and he volunteered to have his teeth checked..... well just a check-up only - he didnt want his daddy to polish his teeth for him! So, we had another little girl who volunteered and was so co-operative. All in all about 5 batches entered the surgery room and one child from each batch had polishing done - without any crying at all!

Larry gave a simple demo on toothbrushing for the kids after the check-ups. The children will be having a group toothbrushing session at the nursery on Friday (Thursday being a public holiday). Q & A session also for the parents who were concerned about fluoride and other issues. All the children were rewarded with stickers for their co-operation. Hopefully they have learnt something valuable from this visit to the dentist.....
