October Updates!

*Sigh* Time just flies and it's been almost 2 months since my last blog post *gasp*

Been really busy with cakes and parties and also the kids!
So here's what happened in October:

First up on October 5th was the very first Nuffnang Food Fest. Am very proud to be part of this event as The Cherry on the Cake was invited by Astro's Lifetime Channel to be their baking partner. I personally baked a total of 1000 pcs of chocolate vanilla cupcakes! Total of RM1146 was raised on that day for breast cancer welfare charity.

Astro's Lifetime channel's booth at the Nuffnang Food Fest 2013

Together with a few friends, Marissa and I watched The Gruffalo at PJ Live Arts, Jaya One. We bought premium tickets and had a good view of the stage! The show was so enjoyable - highly recommended for families. The next show coming up is Aesop's Fables by Jim West. We watched Jim West's production before last year and it was really good too.

For the very first time, my kids participated in a Halloween costume contest held at Bangsar Village. Free for all Toys R'Us members. All participants received a goody bag and also a meal set from Nando's. Evan dressed up as a mad scientist and Marissa was a good witch. We had fun putting the costumes together! After that, the kids get to go trick or treating around the mall and they amassed a huge lot of candy. Obviously I didn't allow them to gobble the candy all up in one go….. The next day, the kids participated in another round of Halloween costume contest at Bangsar Shopping Center this time and went around trick or treating as well.

Both boys won honourable mention awards in the contest

Marissa refused to go on stage!

So that pretty much wraps up what happened in October!

Kleenex Share the Softness

The household name Kleenex has long been synonymous with wondrously soft tissues. No prizes for guessing which is the best answer to complete the following statement :
As soft as _____________
A. Silk
B. Butter
C. Kleenex
D. Down

Kleenex is not only soft, but strong and absorbent too - being made from top quality 100% virgin pulp.

Recently, Kleenex has launched its "Share the Softness" campaign. Basically, this campaign aims to spread the joy of caring and sharing through sending a gift of softness to our loved ones.

You can participate in this campaign by requesting a Kleenex tissue pack in limited edition floral designs for your friends & family here. Go ahead and share the softness to as many people as possible!

For those of you who prefer to gift the Kleenex tissue pack on your own, just go to any retail outlet and purchase a pack of Kleenex tissue aptly named the 'Share Bundle'. Each 'Share Bundle' comes with 5 boxes instead of the standard 4. If you scrutinise the pic below, you will notice the topmost tissue box has a different print i.e. ribbon and notecard, perfect for gifting!

Like most companies who endeavour for excellence in customer service, Kleenex has its own Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/Kleenex.Malaysia
Check out the page for updates on the Kleenex Moments Contest where participants stand a chance to win prizes worth RM14,500! What's more? For each entry in the contest, Kleenex has pledged to donate a Kleenex tissue pack to a non-profit organization.

A big thank you to Kleenex - I have experienced the gift of softness in the form of 2 tissue boxes... keeping one box for myself and another box gifted to someone else!
As for the bottle of hard candy - my son is eyeing it for himself! What a sharp contrast indeed to the soft tissues!

Gap Casting Call Voting & FirstBIKE contest

Remember that I wrote something about Evan taking part in Gap Casting Call 2011? His pic has been uploaded on Gap Malaysia on Facebook. Well, he was not chosen to be one of the 25 semi-finalists in the boys category (6-11 yrs). Anyway, voting has begun and will end on Christmas. The contestant with the highest votes will represent Malaysia in his/her respective category.
If you would like to cast your vote, just follow this link.

I was browsing some websites looking for bicycles for the kids and stumbled upon a Facebook contest organized by FirstBIKE.

It's a simple contest whereby contestants will have to answer a question by commenting on the contest post (something like slogan-writing) and then get your friends/family to vote. The comment with the highest votes on 15th Dec will win the commenter a FirstBIKE Basic pictured above worth RM549. The winner must collect the bike from FirstBIKE's showroom at Mid Valley latest by 23rd December.

I've submitted my entry for this contest and I am currently in the 2nd position. So, if you have just a minute or two to spare, please help me win this bike for Marissa. Click on this link. Then, LIKE FirstBIKE's page. Once done, you can see the contest post. Find my comment (Tuan Hui-Wearn) and then click LIKE. Thank you!

I like Nippon Paint because......... it's Eco- and Health-Friendly!

Renovating our new condo was really a good learning experience - we made a few mistakes here and there. But one thing we didn't go wrong was purchasing more than 10 cans of Nippon paint! Gosh! We still have some leftovers for future touch-ups!

My entire condominium - every single square inch of ceiling/wall/skirting/door is now awash in brilliant white paint giving it a clean spacious feel (the real reason why it's all white is because I don't know what color combinations work....so the easy way out is everything white! ;P)

It was an easy choice for us as we wanted paint with ultra low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOC) - an air pollutant. Nippon - being the pioneer in brand in developing products with almost zero levels of VOC. Super eco-friendly. I really like that.

The bulk of the paint we bought was the Odour-less AirCare. What I really  really really like about this paint is it doesn't smell at all cos there's absolutely no formaldehyde in the formulation. And the bonus is.... the paint also absorbs formaldehyde and then converts it water vapour, refreshing my home in the process.

Nippon's Odour-less AirCare Blobby - it comes equipped with a vacuum to suck in the harmful VOCs and emits fresh water vapour

If you've been to Ikea and walked past their aisles close to the check-out counters........ the  strong unpleasant smell that wafts into your nostrils are from formaldehyde! Potentially health-harming formaldehyde from my new built-in cabinets and furniture are readily absorbed by the many many square feet of Nippon paint! With 2 young kids at home, the health-friendly choice is definitely Nippon. Prolonged exposure to harmful indoor air pollutants such as formaldehyde have been shown to cause skin allergies, nausea, throat irritations and other health problems.

What I also like about the Odour-less AirCare paint is its washability as the kids tend to smudge the walls..... and its anti-bacterial properties.... not to mention the smooth and nice paint coatings which can last for years!

Here's a pic of my little girl with a few of the Nippon Paint Blobbies keychains that we received a free gifts when we bought the paints. She likes the blobbies very much and refers to them as the paint monsters! Do check out the Nippon Paint Blobbies Facebook Page!

And here's one of the bedrooms in my condo :

It's currently filled with the children's toys and books! Everything which doesn't quite fit anywhere else is 'parked' here cos I have not decided on the design and layout for my little girl's future room! Currently, the room is kinda boring with plain white walls and ceiling - no built-ins whatsoever - just loose furniture. I hope the Nippon Odour-less AirCare Blobby in Pink will be able to transform this bedroom so beautifully that my little princess will want to sleep here all by herself!

The New & Improved Kleenex!

Today I am gonna be blogging about that one thing that most people can't live without - Kleenex. Yes you read it right - Kleenex - a genericized trademark synonymous with facial tissue.

My family and I use lots of Kleenexes. We buy it by the truckloads during J-card Day - hey, good stuff ain't cheap, you know. I have no qualms spending a bit more on quality. To my delight, the Kleenex company has recently unveiled its new and improved facial and bath tissue. Yes - bath tissue  too! Not for use while bathing (but I suppose you can when you run out of fresh clean towels!) but those rolls of tissue for use in the bathroom, commonly used to wipe you-know-where. It looks like this:

For the uninitiated, the new and improved Kleenex tissues are made from top quality 100% pure virgin fiber using an innovative new technology. This translates into extra softness and superior strength. For those with sensitive skin, fret not, Kleenex's tissues are hypoallergenic! As for looks, Kleenex scores brownie points with their vintage and rose inspired packaging. Indeed, super value for  facial and bath tissues with 101 uses!

In our household Kleenex is often used to Kleen up stuff.
It's an absolute must to facilitate the expulsion of nasal mucus. How convenient. Blow out the gunk and junk it. With Kleenex's new softer 2-ply or 3-ply tissue,  you won't get chapped skin from repeated wiping. As for the kids, if they are not wiping their nasal mucus with their shirts *smacks forehead* then it's Kleenex to the rescue. Besides nasal discharge, Kleenex comes in handy when dealing with tears, sweat, urine, blood and other bodily discharge. Really. No sweat. Just pull out 1 piece, wipe and throw. The best part is, Kleenex is so soft and comfy and doesn't crumble in your hands.

Then there's the all too familiar scenario of spilt milk, spilt water,  split whatever on the floor, chair, etc. Thanks to Kleenex, I can Kleen it up real fast on the spot.

Kleenex is also used for wiping away icing on my face/hair whenever I get a bit too adventurous while decorating a cake..... wiping the earpick clean while digging my kids' ears......  making a carnation during art & craft time........ etc.

I can go on and on about the various uses of Kleenex and its new improved superior features and function but to experience it, you've got to try it out for yourself. So, do yourself a favor, remember to include Kleenex in your shopping list. They have a whole range of facial and bath tissues that you will be spoil for choice! Pocket tissues are also available so that you can enjoy the goodness of Kleenex wherever you go!

Many thanks to Kleenex for the Comfort Kit that I received for this review!

I Love U Contest

We interrupt this blog to bring you the latest earth-shattering, ground-breaking news in the world of blogging mommies!

A tsunami of sorts had just rocked the peaceful blogosphere of Malaysian mothers. The impact of this tsunami had caused a flurry of online activities by blogging mommies. Investigators attribute the cause of this phenomenon to the launch of an online blogging contest at Little Mama's Diary. Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the rush to win the early bird prizes.

When contacted via email, Little Mama of Little Mama's Diary and Mombloggersplanet had confirmed the reports of the online contest that is continuing to generate such widespread interest. She explained that the contest aims to kickstart the launch  of her two latest stores : Little Mama's LOVE Baby Boutique and Little Kids Photography. Little did Little Mama realise that the launch of the online contest offering  photography packages, vouchers, discounts and a shot at fame for mommy bloggers had caused a euphoria which almost rivals the World Cup Football craze. This was certainly way beyond her expectations.

"At Little Mama's LOVE Baby Boutique, I offer unique girls clothes for both babies and children, arty crafty aprons, soft hankies and easy-fold travel changing mat, at affordable prices. Most items are handmade by me using high quality cotton fabrics, both imported designer and local fabrics." explained Little Mama.

PHD reporter Kaseh Sayyang was on location at Little Mama's LOVE Baby Boutique and noted that designer fabrics by Sandi Henderson in bright and summery colours are available - all ready to be custom designed according to orders. Designer fabrics by Sirpa Cowell and Eva Lundgreen are used in the design for the Little Kids Apron. Features of this 100% cotton apron include adjustable neck straps with antique metal slide, pockets on both sides and one size fits all! This hot item is currently on sale for the entire month of June.

"I bought 4 aprons for my children! I homeschool them and the aprons are just perfect for all their art & craft sessions plus baking sessions! Plus I received free tiny hankies with my order! I definitely recommend this to all mamas!" said Mdm Kittle Chan in an exclusive interview.

This is what Little Mama has to say about her other passion:
"I love capturing magic moments of young children using photojournalistic style. Magical moments are captured as and when it happens – in its natural environment. So, I will only be using available light and available props. No fixed studio setting, lighting or equipment – only me, my DSLR and the little models"

PHD reporter Kaseh Sayyang was also on location at Little Kids Photography and is pleased to report that this photography studio stands outs from all the  rest because of their innovative photography packages. One of the many photography packages that are offered is called Little Chef. This is a great package designed to capture and treasure the magical moments of a little chef, baking and decorating cookies or cupcakes. Little Kids Photography also offers a combined series of 4 photography packages designed to capture all your baby's important milestones within the very first year!

"I love her photography style! Little Mama is such a fun person to work with. We had a pre-photography session consultation to discuss clothing and props that I would be bringing on my own. She also provided extra props and light refreshments during the photography session outdoors!  I am so totally in love with all the cute photos of my darling babies!" said Mrs Annie Geddes, a very satisfied customer.

Stay tuned as we bring you more live updates on Little Mama's I Love U Contest in  awhile....

I Love.....

I had a blast at Hong Kong Disneyland during my family holiday last week. So....just to share some of the things I love during the short stay there!

It's a great place to go to..... and indulge in all things Mickey, Minnie and Jiminy Cricket! Well..... Jiminy Cricket is the spokes-cricket for Earth Day at HK Disneyland. The entire week I was there - it was Earth Week (Earth Day was celebrated on 22nd April 2010).
There were special activities for kids and adults alike e.g. fun recycling-themed games, green tutorials etc.

Evan took a photo with Jiminy Cricket at Fantasyland.

There are so many places to shop to your hearts content here in Hong Kong Disneyland e.g. in Main Street USA itself, there is a crystal art shop, bakery and  souvenir shops. HK Disneyland also sells reusable shopping bags priced at HKD$20 but during the Earth Week, it was on promo price for HKD$10. So I snagged one of it!

Burns calories and is good for the environment. We took nice and leisurely walks around the gardens of HK Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel. We also walked a lot exploring Disneyland. We rented a stroller to push Marissa around. Cost of rental is HKD$60 per day. A HKD$40 deposit is required.

Marissa was fascinated with the Stitch bubble machine

Dim Sum and Chinese cuisine are aplenty here in HK Disneyland. We ate dim sum almost everyday and it's soooo yummy! My little girl loves to snack too - the eco-friendly way. All I have to do is eat a little extra food and drink a little extra water and I am able to produce quality breastmilk for her. Breastfeeding is very environmental friendly compared to artificial feeding which adds to environmental pollution in its manufacture, packaging, transport and preparation. I do not need to lug around bottles/formula/water or use up energy to boil water or use any water to wash bottles at all. There's a baby care centre in Disneyland which has 2 nursing rooms, each equipped with a table and rocking chairs.

Marissa snacked here....

.... while we snacked here : Comet Cafe in Tomorrowland

Spotted lots of recycling bins around the entire park! Extremely convenient to separate rubbish for recycling. Check these out!

Spotted this recycling bin on Main Street USA. Jiminy Cricket again on the bin!

While on the topic of recylcing..... I would like to mention here that Sloggi has recently launched its Love World Love Sloggi collection of lingerie made from recylced materials (plastic bottles included!). Wow! This is indeed a positive step towards a greener future for all of us. I hope to see eco-friendly nursing bras from Sloggi in the near future! Anyway, in Tomorrowland....

.........another set of recycling bins.

Finally - my favourite ride in HK Disneyland : It's A Small World

The best ever present we can ever give to our kids is a trip to Disneyland ... not!
Actually, the best thing we can ever give to our children is LOVE!

Love our world - Love our children - Love our planet
